After School Hoops®
Join One on One Basketball at Queen Anne Elementary for After School Hoops®, an ideal introduction to the most dynamic sport in the world. Our instructors will not only teach your child athletic fundamentals through progressive drills, engaging cardio and fun competitions, but we will use these fundamentals as a platform to teach life-skill lessons that reinforce positive attitudes about effort, respect, cooperation and self-control. After School Hoops® makes three guarantees: your child will learn, sweat and have fun!

NEW! After School Hip Hop Dance
Make your move with One on One Hip-Hop at QAE as we have serious fun exploring the world of hip-hop dance. We will learn various individual moves each week as we build strength, flexibility and coordination through highly creative dance. We will learn how to function in a cohesive group and work together towards our final goal of performing for family at the final session!

Art Club with Ms. Meg
Nature and the environment will be our inspiration for this 8-week mixed media art workshop! Students will get creative and hands on as they experiment using earth as their medium in a variety of projects such as leaf doodles and “woodsy” sculptures. Throughout the club students will acquire/refine fine art skills, practice teamwork, build confidence creating finished pieces to take home and… have fun! Note from Ms. Meg: "Most projects are designed for the median 3rd grade skill level, with differentiation provided to meet individual students’ needs as best I can."

QAE Chess Club
Join Queen Anne Elementary Chess Club and learn tactics and strategies of chess! Chess Mates has been offering after-school chess programs in Seattle area public schools for more than 20 years. Chess helps children build critical thinking skills and learn to focus and plan.
Each class will include lesson presentation, chess puzzle-solving time and game playing time. Chess Mates will provide student workbooks, chess sets and boards and other materials. All you need to be is eager to play and learn! Scholarships are available. Both beginner and intermediate players are welcome!

QAE Dance Club - Creative Ballet
While establishing body awareness, muscle development, flexibility, coordination and basic locomotor skills, this class expands each child’s inner creativity. Exploration of space, shapes, pathways, rhythms, and movement qualities will also help your child to develop problem solving skills. We will introduce the basic Ballet positions, some preparatory steps and sequencing with special attention to posture, core strength and clean technique. We’ll also focus on musicality, phrasing, terminology, and Ballet etiquette while gaining strength and flexibility in all muscle groups – all this, wrapped in fun themes that the children will love. The warm and friendly atmosphere will foster camaraderie, cooperation, encouragement and a positive self image. Leggings and a T-shirt recommended for girls; sweats and T-shirt recommended for boys. But any loose comfortable clothes or dance attire will be acceptable. Classes for grades 3-5 will be offered starting in February.

Debate Club
DebateAble is an after-school debate program for 4th and 5th grade students throughout Seattle. DebateAble operates as a separate debate club at each school, providing children with the opportunity to learn critical thinking skills, empathy, analysis and public speaking in a fun and positive environment. Using teamwork, games, research materials and practice debates, students are taught to formulate, support and present arguments, as well as listen, understand and respond to the arguments of others. Each 12-week session ends with the opportunity for students to demonstrate the skills that they've learned at Debate Club. Fall session concludes with a scrimmage debate directly following the final club meeting. Spring session culminates in a Saturday, inter-school debate tournament, where debaters from all participating Queen Anne and Magnolia schools are invited to participate in a fun, low-key debate competition. Family and friends of debaters are encouraged to attend both events.

NEW! Greek and Latin Word Detectives
English is a vibrant, living language, and Greek and Latin roots are the foundation of more words and expressions than most of us can even imagine. In this program, through interactive games, vibrant conversations and other fun activities, your student will learn the origins and connections of the roots within words we use on a daily basis. Knowledge of Greek and Latin root words incorporates history. It helps children to figure out the meaning of words, making them better readers, writers and spellers. It promotes creativity and articulation in learners of all ages. But more than anything else, it teaches students to be thrilled by language.

KidsCreate
Join us in this fantastic art series that explores medieval art and renaissance art! We'll begin by traveling to medieval times while making clay gargoyle sculptures, shields with family crests, and drawings of medieval castles. Then will jump to the Renaissance and take inspiration from the well-known artists Leonardo Da Vinci and Michelangelo as we create our own inventions, and paint underneath tables, taking inspiration from the Sistine Chapel! Mixing history with art, students will explore color theory, architecture, armature and portraiture.

Math 4 Love
In this class we will see that playing games and working on puzzles can be two of the most fun and effective ways to encourage solid mathematical thinking. Students will learn a wide assortment of mathematical games, puzzles and activities that center around deep concepts of pattern, number, structure, and shape. We’ll play, pose questions, simplify, solve, and invent new challenges. The goal of this class is to introduce kids to the real meat of mathematical thinking in all its elegant glory, and to provide a pathway through games for students to discover what there is to love in mathematics. If you are a kid who likes math, games, or puzzles, this class is for you.

Intro to Robotics
Junior FIRST LEGO League (Jr.FLL) captures young children’s inherent curiosity and directs it toward discovering the wonders of science and technology. Jr.FLL was developed to introduce 6 to 9 year-old students to science concepts and teamwork.

Beginning Robotics I
Beginning Robotics is the follow-up for children that have already taken Intro to Robotics and been part of a Jr.FLL team. The children will build LEGO models that respond to their environment with working motors and sensors; they will learn to program the models; and continue their exploration of science, technology, engineering, and math.

Come join Seattle's Littlest Performers for our fall themed music and movement club. We will be singing songs about pumpkins, spiders, bats, turkeys and funny snowmen. We will be using bean bags, scarves and a large parachute for our music activities. We will also explore various musical instruments including tambourines, keyboards, guitar and Autoharp.We will learn about part singing, and singing in rounds. We will conclude our class with a mini performance on the last day of class to showcase what we have learned.

We will be exploring the MJ hits; Blame it on the Boogie, Leave Me Alone, Wanna Be Starting Something, Bad, Beat It, and Man in the Mirror. The Queen Anne Unicycle Club is a fun way to continue to practice or excel with
other students of all grade levels who are learning this incredible skill! We will provide equipment for each student as well as coaching, a small snack and a club T-Shirt. Students are required to bring their own helmet for this club, and will also be permitted to use their own unicycle if they have one.
