NEW! Creative Writing Club
Do you think writing is an adventure? (Or are you at least open to the idea?) If so, this class is for you! We’ll kick off with a fun writing prompt or exercise, then students can work on their own projects (all genres welcome!) or write from teacher-supplied prompts, games, or creative worksheets. For students who love writing but are unsure what they want to write, Annie has plenty of ways to help find ideas. At the end of the hour, writers who want to can share some of what they've written. This is a fun, safe place for young writers to make choices, take chances, and explore new writing territory.
Ages: 2nd-5th grade (limit: 10 students per class)

NEW! Songsterz Songwriting and Performance
Songsterz is a fun and creative way to build children’s writing and math skills while increasing self confidence and developing performance skills through songwriting. Through exploring the writing process children learn about song structure, rhyme, rhythm, pattern, mood, tone, and melody. We will create a song together as a class and then each child will create and an individual original song. Guitar, keyboard and/or percussion will be collaboratively added (no previous instrumental ability required). Each student will receive a digital file of recorded songs and End of Session Performance (and any pictures or video taken). Instructor Jennifer SavageCrane (SixFootSavage) has a Master’s Degree in Teaching and 15 years of professional music experience.

After School Hoops®
Join One on One Basketball at Queen Anne Elementary for After School Hoops®, an ideal introduction to the most dynamic sport in the world. Our instructors will not only teach your child athletic fundamentals through progressive drills, engaging cardio and fun competitions, but we will use these fundamentals as a platform to teach life-skill lessons that reinforce positive attitudes about effort, respect, cooperation and self-control. After School Hoops® makes three guarantees: your child will learn, sweat and have fun!

After School Hip Hop Dance
Make your move with One on One Hip-Hop at QAE as we have serious fun exploring the world of hip-hop dance. We will learn various individual moves each week as we build strength, flexibility and coordination through highly creative dance. We will learn how to function in a cohesive group and work together towards our final goal of performing for family at the final session!

Art Club with Ms. Meg
Winter Session 2: Stitch by Stitch, a Workshop in Textiles
Project 1: Mixed Media Cross Stitching. What happens when you mix paint, fabric, stitching together? We will experiment in just that as we examine contemporary crafting while learning traditional cross stitching skills.
Project 2: Sewn Stuffy. Whether it is an "ugly doll", pretty doll, or animal; students will get creative piecing together a stuffy by combining their creativity with learned sewing techniques.
Ages: limited to 12 students grades 1-5

QAE Chess Club
Join Queen Anne Elementary Chess Club and learn tactics and strategies of chess! Chess Mates has been offering after-school chess programs in Seattle area public schools for more than 20 years. Chess helps children build critical thinking skills and learn to focus and plan.
Each class will include lesson presentation, chess puzzle-solving time and game playing time. Chess Mates will provide student workbooks, chess sets and boards and other materials. All you need to be is eager to play and learn! Scholarships are available. Both beginner and intermediate players are welcome!

Dance Club - Creative Ballet
REGISTRATION OPEN - 2/4 update: a few spots are still available in this club.
While establishing body awareness, muscle development, flexibility, coordination and basic locomotor skills, this class expands each child’s inner creativity. Exploration of space, shapes, pathways, rhythms, and movement qualities will also help your child to develop problem solving skills. We will introduce the basic Ballet positions, some preparatory steps and sequencing with special attention to posture, core strength and clean technique. We’ll also focus on musicality, phrasing, terminology, and Ballet etiquette while gaining strength and flexibility in all muscle groups – all this, wrapped in fun themes that the children will love. The warm and friendly atmosphere will foster camaraderie, cooperation, encouragement and a positive self image. Leggings and a T-shirt recommended for girls; sweats and T-shirt recommended for boys. But any loose comfortable clothes or dance attire will be acceptable.

Debate Club
DebateAble is an after-school debate program for 4th and 5th grade students throughout Seattle. DebateAble operates as a separate debate club at each school, providing children with the opportunity to learn critical thinking skills, empathy, analysis and public speaking in a fun and positive environment. Using teamwork, games, research materials and practice debates, students are taught to formulate, support and present arguments, as well as listen, understand and respond to the arguments of others. Each 12-week session ends with the opportunity for students to demonstrate the skills that they've learned at Debate Club. Fall session concludes with a scrimmage debate directly following the final club meeting. Spring session culminates in a Saturday, inter-school debate tournament, where debaters from all participating Queen Anne and Magnolia schools are invited to participate in a fun, low-key debate competition. Family and friends of debaters are encouraged to attend both events.

Greek and Latin Word Detectives
English is a vibrant, living language, and Greek and Latin roots are the foundation of more words and expressions than most of us can even imagine. In this program, through interactive games, vibrant conversations and other fun activities, your student will learn the origins and connections of the roots within words we use on a daily basis. Knowledge of Greek and Latin root words incorporates history. It helps children to figure out the meaning of words, making them better readers, writers and spellers. It promotes creativity and articulation in learners of all ages. But more than anything else, it teaches students to be thrilled by language.

KidsCreate
Come join us on this 8 week mixed media art adventure as we explore the ART OF LEGEND! In this exploratory art class, students will create fabric art puppets, sculpt clay characters, design a storyboard with pastels and water color, and build a 3-dimensional accordion pop up book. Weaving this process with stories and technique, students will play, process and most importantly have fun!

Math 4 Love
In this class we will see that playing games and working on puzzles can be two of the most fun and effective ways to encourage solid mathematical thinking. Students will learn a wide assortment of mathematical games, puzzles and activities that center around deep concepts of pattern, number, structure, and shape. We’ll play, pose questions, simplify, solve, and invent new challenges. The goal of this class is to introduce kids to the real meat of mathematical thinking in all its elegant glory, and to provide a pathway through games for students to discover what there is to love in mathematics. If you are a kid who likes math, games, or puzzles, this class is for you.

Music Club this session will focus on rock n roll songs from the 50s! Singing the hits Rockin' Robin, Johnny B. Goode, Lollipop, and Hound Dog this class is sure to be a kid favorite. We will explore with tambourines, boomwhackers, and egg shakers, while continuing to build upon the terms of music dynamics and tempo through movement and games.

NEW! THE SNEETCHES MUSICAL at Queen Anne Elementary
Drama Club with Seattle’s Littlest Performers
Welcome to the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss! This musical will put an original spin on Dr. Seuss’ story of the Sneetches by incorporating the music of Elvis! They argue about which Sneetches are better? Those with stars upon their bellies or those without. A sly inventor comes to town, and creates a star on/ star off machine, and in and our of machine the two different types of Sneetches go until you cannot tell which one was what, and what one was who! This show will feature the Elvis hits, “Hound Dog”, “Jailhouse Rock”, “Stuck on You” and “Suspicious Minds.” A final performance with take place the last day of class.

Unicycle Club
The Queen Anne Unicycle Club is a fun way to continue to practice or excel with
other students of all grade levels who are learning this incredible skill! We will provide equipment for each student as well as coaching, a small snack and a club T-Shirt. Students are required to bring their own helmet for this club, and will also be permitted to use their own unicycle if they have one.

Queen Anne Elementary has a very active Robotics program, with teams at four different levels participating in First LEGO League and Jr. First LEGO League.

QAE Music Club: ROCK AND ROLL!
with Seattle’s Littlest Performers
Music Club this session will focus on rock n roll songs from the 50s! Singing the hits Rockin' Robin, Johnny B. Goode, Lollipop, and Hound Dog this class is sure to be a kid favorite. We will explore with tambourines, boomwhackers, and egg shakers, while continuing to build upon the terms of music dynamics and tempo through movement and games.
Ages: K-3rd grade, (min/max enrollment: 7-15 students)

NEW! THE SNEETCHES MUSICAL at Queen Anne Elementary
Drama Club with Seattle’s Littlest Performers
Welcome to the wonderful world of Dr. Seuss! This musical will put an original spin on Dr. Seuss’ story of the Sneetches by incorporating the music of Elvis! They argue about which Sneetches are better? Those with stars upon their bellies or those without. A sly inventor comes to town, and creates a star on/ star off machine, and in and our of machine the two different types of Sneetches go until you cannot tell which one was what, and what one was who! This show will feature the Elvis hits, “Hound Dog”, “Jailhouse Rock”, “Stuck on You” and “Suspicious Minds.” A final performance with take place the last day of class.

Unicycle Club
The Queen Anne Unicycle Club is a fun way to continue to practice or excel with
other students of all grade levels who are learning this incredible skill! We will provide equipment for each student as well as coaching, a small snack and a club T-Shirt. Students are required to bring their own helmet for this club, and will also be permitted to use their own unicycle if they have one.
