New SPS District Club Scholarship Policy's Impact on Open Enrollment

Update (10:10 am, August 31, 2012)

QAE PTSA are working closely with our clubs to implement the new District scholarship policy into each registration form. We will announce open enrollment after we have approved the registration forms. We plan to make a school wide announcement of open enrollment for all clubs on Tuesday Sept. 4, 2012.

If you have downloaded registration forms before today, or obtained registration forms from the clubs directly at August 30's Open House, please kindly wait until we announce open enrollment, and then download the new approved form at this site, which will have new scholarship policy implemented.

If you have already registered online for several clubs, your registration should be accepted. However, before we announce open enrollment on Sept. 4, 2012, please do not use the online registration links, as the clubs will be modifying the registration pages and implementing new scholarship policy.

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding! We hope this new policy will enable more families and children who could benefit from a club program to participate. If you are able, we would always be happy to receive scholarship donations. Please kindly make your check payable to "QAE PTSA Scholarship Fund". Thank you!

Update (2:45 pm, August 30, 2012)

We have implemented a new scholarship policy for all of our clubs and activities. Enrollment will be open for those clubs that have signed this agreement. We hope this new policy will enable more families and children who could benefit from a club program to participate. If you are willing, we would always be happy to receive scholarship donations. Please kindly make your check payable to "QAE PTSA Scholarship Fund". Thank you!

(10:49 am, August 30, 2012)

The SPS District has recently announced new scholarship policy for before and after school clubs and activities. Our school principal and PTSA are working closely with the district and the clubs regarding this issue.

We understand that many families have been inquiring regarding when they can enroll in a club activity. We will open club enrollment once a clearly-defined scholarship policy for our families is established.

Thank you for your patience. When this issue is resolved, we will be making a school-wide newsletter and QAE home page announcement for open enrollment.

Call for Parent Volunteers to Join the Music Club Search Committee (August 20, 2012)

Due to the overwhelming interest in music clubs indicated by our families (62.5% of our families who took the July Family Survey indicated that they would like to enroll in a music instrument club, and 34.7% for singing clubs), we would like to establish a Music Club Search Committee, composed of a few parent volunteers, who will help find a suitable music class provider. Our goal is to start our first music club in January, 2013.

Responsibilities of the Search Committee would include:

- Find a few potential music club providers

- Interview the providers and check their references

- Select a provider that best meets the needs of our families and propose to PTSA for voting

Experience with instrument or music could be helpful but is not required for joining the Committee.

Please contact Karen Gigliotti, the Music Club Search Committee Chair (karengigliotti@gmail.com) (CC Angela Liu, the PTSA Club Coordinator (qaeclubs@gmail.com)), if you have any questions or are interested in joining the Committee. Thank you for your time and contribution!

Call for Parent Volunteers as Chess Club Coordinators (August 14, 2012)

Update (August 20, 2012)

We have found a dedicated parent volunteer for the grade K-1 Chess Class. Chess Mates will be holding classes on Tuesday afternoons led by a great coach Jacob, starting in early October. Thank you, Yuko, for your great contribution to our school!

August 14, 2012

The PTSA would love to sponsor two chess club classes for school year 2012-2013 but we need your help!

Chess Mates is able to keep costs low (less than $5 per class!) by relying on parent volunteers to support the program. We are looking for parents who are interested in serving as Chess Club Coordinators to help manage Chess Club, organize the weekly parent volunteers, and serve as the point of contact for QAE Chess Club. At least two parents are needed. One parent would coordinate the new chess players group (primarily K-1 graders) and one parent would coordinate the experienced chess player group (primarily 2nd - 5th graders).

The Chess Club Coordinators must be identified by August 31st, 2012 in order for QAE to be assigned an instructor from Chess Mates.

Please contact Angela Liu (qaeclubs@gmail.com) if you are interested in being a Chess Club Coordinator or have any questions. Thank you for your time and contribution!
